Skyjacker opinions?

Thinking about getting the 6" skyjacker for my truck, (2wd.) It's only about 100$ more than a Fabtech 6" without coilovers.

Anybody have experience with this lift? I can't seem to find much info on it. Is it an adjustable coilover, or not?

The other thing I'm a little iffy about is the rear crossmember drop brackets.

Thanks for any help

I was about to ask why you were runnin 35s.. Then I saw the "to come" section.. Haha.

They claim 37/12.5s on 16s... I don't think 16s work on these trucks. Even so, I don't think a 37 would fit without a spacer.

I may try and squeeze 36s....

with a 6" lift from what i hear u will not be able to fit 37s so i put a 2" AS spacer up front so now i can fit 37s ......but im gonna wait till my tires now wear out or when i get back from bootcamp just put the 37s on and try to sell my 35s........now when those 37s wear out ill put on the body lift also with bigger tires

but for right now im at an 8inch with 35s bc the fact i have to fit it in the garage and it barely fits as it stands so thats why im not putting the 37s on it right away. lol sucks but still looks good

I had a 6" Skyjacker on my old Silverado. Rode great and performed fine - no problems whatsoever.

How was the install? I read the instructions and it mentions having to get the spindle pressed out and re-using the spring seats, etc.

Ya your right about the wheel size on the 04-08 the smallest wheel you can fit is a 17 because there is not enough room between the rim and the brake calliper!

New questions popped into my head.

I'm considering the replacement leaf packs. Mine are squeeky (seems Ford has always been infamous for this.)

How much lift do this usually give? I'm probably going to have to get a block to make myself happy. And is it possible to add a leaf in these, or is that stupid?

Also, is it worth it to get the platinum series shocks? I was considering just ordering it without shocks and getting Bilstein's. Any thoughts on that? Obviously the Bilstein's are probably better, but for the price, would it makes sense? And should I use Bilstein's in the front too?

Thanks

attworth, I am very pleased with my new skykacker. I was concerned prior to buying it that nobody seems to have it... Everybody is Fabtech crazy... What sold me on the skyjacker was the fact that it is more simplistic compared to the Fabtech and others. There is a lot less smaller parts. In my mind the biggest thing is that you dont have to grind your drive shaft, put on an extension and get it rebalanced. Ive heard of people having issues with that. Skykacker has a genius approach to lowering the front differental and keeping everything simple. See for yourself...Just download the isntallation instructions for the skyjacker and some of the other more porpular lifts and you will see what I mean. Also the skid plates that come with the skyjacker are very solid and look awesome!!!

The basic kit comes with an aal and it gave me 5 inches in the back. Which actually had the back sitting 1 inch high (compared to 2 inces stock) prior to my 2 inch spacer. So now I am sitting 1 inch low in the back. Im debating what I will do there, if anything...

If you want to run tires larger than 35's I suggest a 2 inch spacer. I tried to cram 37's with just a 6 inch lift and failed miserably. The cv and control arm angles are quite reasonable with the 2 inch spacer on the skyjacker. Ive seen some horrific angles on here with spacers on other lifts. The ride is great too!

I did a ton of research prior to pulling the trigger, and Im glad I went with the Skyjacker.

Awesome info. Most of what you mentioned applies to 4wd.. Sadly I'm 2wd. But I did notice that everything seems less involved than Fabtech and others. I love Fabtech. I'm just looking for bang for the buck. A new set of coil overs is very appealing, and a new rear leaf pack, for less than Fabtech's kit, is just awesome.

I've got a 2.5" spacer on mine, and my ball joints look like they're just at a horrendous angle. However, I've never had any issues, and the spindle has yet to hit the coils ( I check weekly, especially if I romp in the dirt. )

I am confident that I can fit 35s now (especially since i have no plastic valence on the front thanks to the grille guard.) I figure that with a 6" and 2" spacer (maybe,) I could shove 37s. It's just a matter of whether or not I feel comfortable with them on a 8" wheel. I may stick with a 36 without the spacer. Realistically, it'd only be about an inch and a half to two inches extra compared to the tires I'm running now.

Thanks for the input.

I didnt see that you had a 2wd, but Im sure the same principals apply... As for 37's, Im not sure how that will work for you. The 2wds sit lower, therefore a 6 inch lift with a 2 inch spacer will not give you the same clearance as it would on a 4wd. I had to bust out the grinder and hot knife on my 4wd to fit 37's. I think I did a nice job but Im barely avoiding rub and have nothing reasonable left to trim. If you go with a narrow tire it may work. As for the angles with the lift and spacer, here is a pic of mine. It actually looks better in person!

That's been everybody's general thoughts. Wandell was surprised I fit the tires I have now. And I have PLENTY of space. Maybe my truck is special.

Your angles look very reasonable.

You have an amazing truck. And the plane is cool too.

Thanks man! Being in charge of an 84000 lb machine with 28000 lbs of thrust and 3500 gallons of gas with 90 passengers traveling over 500 mph makes my truck seem small! Heck Im just flying the small stuff for now!

I can't even imagine. I did AFROTC for a while. I had aspirations of flying the F35. It was scheduled for release to the AF about 2 months before I graduated. I changed my mind though. Decided sticking to Engineering was a better plan for me and my family.

I'd still like to get my pilot license though. I just gotta bite the bullet and lay down the time and money.
