Torsion spring swap problem --2x4 vs 4x4
Torsion spring swap problem --2x4 vs 4x4
I recently swapped a set of 7700lb torsion springs into my 2000 4x4 extended cab, short box F150 to accommodate a 4r100 tranny. The springs went in just fine, but now the front sits realllly low. It almost looks like the 2x4 ride height. Is the a difference in the 2x4 and 4x4 springs? could I have gotten 2x4 springs?
The part number for the bars that I have is:
Right torsion bar F65Z-5B326-HA
Left torsion bar F65Z-5B327-HA

riiiiiiight... I forgot about that. damn. so has anyone else that has done the swap had this problem? I tried turning the spring to the next possible orientation but it wouldnt turn enough to go into the crossmember. Anyone else experience this problem?
if you dont have the tool to preload the bars then this is what you need to do. it has worked for me before. jack up the truck letting the suspension hang. then remove the front tires and disconect the lower ball joint. then have a buddy push the controll arm down even further untill you can get the adjuster plate it. let me know it it works for ya.
also make sure you have the bars in right. they should be marked right and left.

I had it at my mechanics shop (he was helping me out for free because he has the tool) and we couldn't get it to go with the tool. the idea of disconnecting the ball joint sounds like a good one. once you have the spring in though, how do you get the control arm back?
