Question Suspension 101

Alright guys I'm new to truck suspensions and could use some advice/help..

I have a 6" Fabtech lift installed on my 06 2wd w/ 17x8 wheels w/ BFG LT315/70R17

I would like someone to explain what each does and why i would want to add:

Blocks??
Spacers??
AAL??

Anything else that could help me understand a little better i would appreciate the help...

If you have a suggestion on the type of the above parts to get, that would be great.

blocks are to lift the rear of the truck, they come in different sizes from 1" and up. They go in-between your leaf springs and the axle, much over a 3" block and you can get axle wrap which can hurt u joints and make the truck less driveable

spacers- i guess you mean coil spacers, they are pretty much "blocks" except for coil springs, they go on the front of your truck to give it more lift in the front. The usualy get placed above the spring to push the control arm down which gives you more lift

AAL's - add a leafs, are an extra leaf spring for the rear of the truck, you have to take your leaf spring apart and put the extra spring where it belongs they put the spring back together, it raises the back of the truck, it will give you a stiffer ride but if you tow alot then it can be useful

hope that helps

So if i added spacers to the front i would also have to block or add another leaf to the rear to keep the truck level with my lift kit?

If i wanted to go to 18" or 20" wheels what backspacing and offset should i use and what size tires would work?

if the truck is level now then yes you will need both but if it is sitting low in front or back you can do one or the other to level it.

Im not sure about the bs on the wheels

What about getting a body lift?? The blocks and spacers would achieve the same affect??

the body lift will lift the body off the frame of the truck and you could still use spacers and blocks. you have to be careful with spacers because it could put your upper-control arms and ball joints at a severe angle. I have a 2.5 inch auto spring spacer on top of my 6 inch fabtech and it works great. As far as backspacing i would look at something with a backspacing of 4.5 to 5.5 i have 20x10 inch rims with 4.75 BS. Hope i helped lol

So with a 2.5" Auto spring spacer set on the front, what did you use on the rear to keep it level??

I'm looking at 20x10 in American Racing Thugs:

Part No. Size Offset Backside Bolt Circle Note
3991-2136 20x10 -25 4 1/2 6-135 03-on Ford Truck/SUV
3991-2136A 20x10 0 5 1/2 6-135 03-on Ford Truck/SUV

Which ones would work out better after the spacers and blocks or AAL are installed?

Thanks

I would go nothing over a 2inch spacer in the front, it puts too much strain on your upper control arm ball joint. I have the same setup with the two inch spacers and have had to add a 5 inch block to the rear end, replacing the 3 inch stock fabtech block, to keep it level.
