4X4 vs. 4X2

I know that the 4x4's sit about two inches higher front and back then 4x2's. I was wondering what is the difference in the suspension. Can i buy the oem parts off a 4x4 and put them on my 4x2 for the same lift and still keep all the angles within specs or do the 4x4's have a totally different setup?

Thanks,
Trent K

i think you can get oem 4x4 front coil-overs and use those and i guess you could get a 2.5 leveling kit and get 35's maybe? (correct me if i am wrong) and i know you can get 4x4 blocks for the back to raise the back.
that sounds like it would work

That's all assuming that he has the new body style. If it's a 97-03 then the front suspension is completely different.

So the coil-overs on the front are the only difference and blocks in the back? I dont see why i can't just get the 4x4 shocks and springs at all four corners plus the blocks out back for a 2" lift plus the spacer. Thats all the lift i want. I wonder how much that would cost.

You still didn't say what year your truck is. That's very important.

I believe doing this setup will defineatly give you bad angles on both upper and lower balljoints. the back will be fine, but for the front I think a drop down bracket style lift would be your best bet.

I agree with Nooq. This is assuming you have a 2004-2008 F-150.

i believe it may have to do with the shorter spindle used on the 2wd's. not 100% though, but the 4x2 and 4x4 front suspensions differ, this is why the 4x4 accomodates a larger coil spring. get an answer from your local suspension shop or dealer, they will know the in's and outs of it

the 2wd have a shorter spindle you cant use the 4x4 one because... well you have to wheel drive (no CV's) the best you can do is put 4wd coilovers up front. once again assuming its an 04-present

I talked to a guy that was gonna sell me his P.C. Coilovers and he told me I can turn around and sell my OEM shocks to anyone with an 04 or newer 2wd because it will give them an extra couple of inches up front because the 4x4 oem shocks are actually larger than the 2wd.
