33" too small?

New guy here. Great site. I've done my research, now I want a flat out personal opinion if you could help. My son has a 2002 Ford Supercrew 2wd. Got in it real cheap. So I've agreed to lift it,tires, etc. I really can't see regearing it. He wants a six inch lift and bigger tires. Would 33x12.5x16 look too small? If someone agreed to fix your truck up, what would you do? Staying around$3,000 or less. Thanks alot, Christmas may depend on your answer!

Can you install the lift? If so, 3 grand could be enough for lift, wheels, tires, and gears. As for how it looks, I don't know because I am not familiar with the supercrews

Nah,not me, but my mechanic cuts me some huge deals. Also, forgot to add that I would consider a smaller lift with the 33's or maybe do the 35's for the six inch. Just don't have a clue here.

Ya it really depends on you doing the labor or not?
Either way, in my opinion the 6" lift w/ 33" tires does look a tad... off. I prefer the tires to fill in the wheel wells a bit more. If you are set on the 6" lift I would look at 35" tires and then perhaps later down the road he can work to put in new low gears (the lift and tires with the loss of power should be a huge motivation factor to get him saving but not enough power loss to keep him from driving). they also make a nice 4.5 " lift that would look real nice with 35" tires but you could also run the 33" with-out as much of a gap. check out http://www.suspensionconnection.com/...con/24950.html
Also, look around the web, there's a ton of ways to lift these rigs! good luck and keep us posted.

Go ahead and get the 7.5" Fabtech, 1100 shipped---->http://www.4wheelonline.com/Products...roductID=71912

This will allow him to run 35" tires comfortably on his 2wd. Might as well start there cuz he's gonna want it for next christmas neways right?

That leaves you 2000 for a real nice set of rims and tires on a truck anyone would be proud of.

Good Luck

Most people find that once they start going bigger, they are never quite big enough, get the largest lift you can afford and at least put 35s if not taller (please note that you will want to regear sooner than later w/ larger tires). I have 33" m/t on my dakota, dont let my midsize be the same as your supercrew

You didn't mention what engine he has. If he has a 5.4 just throw some 35s on there with a 6 or 7.5 inch lift. If he's not happy with the power after that tell him he can pay to have it regeared. If he's got a 4.6 you're not gonna want to go bigger than 33s without gears. I ran 33s with my stock 3.55s and a 4.6 for a few months and it sucked. 4.56s fixed that right up. Now I'm running 35s with those gears and I want to regear to 4.88s lol.

That 7.5 kit is for the 97-03 4x2's. I'd suggest a 6 inch Pro COmp or Fabtech lift. 33's or 35's will look fine. I'd suggest a 325/60-18 (33x13.00) on an 18x9 inch wheel with 5 to 6 inches of backspacing if you decide to go with 33's.

I know it can get confusing when people post links to 4wd kits or what they did on their 04

Yes, one of the most confusing things was pics of lifted 4wd's. If I understand correctly, they would be around 2-3inches higher before any lift. So, I am thinking that a 2wd.with a 6 inch lift would be around three inches higher than a stock 4x4? Anyway, after reading the responses I, I think I'm going to get the 35's. Thanks for taking the time to help.

Yeah, it does get confusing when people start posting pics of different trucks than the topic is about. The 97-03 4x4's sit about 3 inches taller than the 4x2's. So, a 4x2 with a 6 inch lift is gonna be about the same height as my 4x4 with a 3 inch lift. I have pics in my gallary with 33's and 35's.
