Idler Arm Replacement

I have been told by the dealer that I need a new idler arm, and have now learnt that these are maintenance part and that this is normal. My questions are:

I normally do my own small time maintenance on this truck (2002 F150), can I do this myself ??

Do I need any special tools to do this ??

Do I need to do the tie rod ends at the same time ??

Thanks in advance

yes it is pretty easy to do yourself, there are two bolts that hold it and one bolt on the drag link, a pickle fork would help seperate the idler arm from the drag link, it is a easy job shouldnt take more than a half hour and you dont need to replace the tie rods unless they are bad. good luck

One more comment... remove the arm and take it to your parts store. There are two different arms and if you bring the original they will be able to give you the right part the first time.
