Lift with a Spare
Lift with a Spare
Howdy guys...I know this might be a Tire question....but I thought it would be more fitting in the suspesion side. I have a Fabtech 3.5inch lift sitting in my room (that looks soooooo good lol) but anyway I am putting a spacer on as well and will be putting 35/12.5 tires on the truck. What do you guys (people with big @$$ lifts) do when it comes to a spare tire. I saw one guy fabbed up a wicked roof-rack that he kept the full size spare that matched his other tires. Do y'all just stick wiht the stock tire as spare? and if so would that get you to the closest tire place without any problems?

Well its this tire that you can use...jk anyway umm the reason I ask is because I do a lot of highway driving between NC and NY and RI and stuff, would rather not be the dude sitting waiting for AAA when I can just throw a spare on for 100 miles or so. Also for towing I would rather have a spare so I don't have to leave my horse/trailer sitting on the side of the road while my truck get towed. Is it just as Memo said "Whats a spare?" if so I may rethink this whole lift.

A couple of things:
1. If you're running 35s like I am, you can fit a 33 in the spare tire holder under the bed. Someone mentioned that you can fit a 35 but I am not sure about that. Obviously I wouldn't go as wide as 12.5, but if need something in a pinch, a thinner 33 or 35 will do the trick and you won't have to fabricate anything.
2. If you have a flat tire with this set up, you need to make sure that the spare goes on the front. You shouldn't run different size tires in the back. So, if you have a flat tire in the back of the truck, you need to swap it with a front tire and then put the spare tire on front.
Luckily I haven't had any flats since running the 35s, but I currently have a worn 33 as my spare underneath my bed and have had not problems fitting there. Again, someone claims you can fit a 35 underneath but I haven't seen or heard of anyone who's tried it. I would love to hear from someone though if they are stuffing a 35 underneath their bed.

Thanks JK007 that was the kinda reply I needed. I dunno where you could put the 40" lol that would be one hell of a feat to fit one under lol. WHere would be the easiest place to find a 33 thats worn?

As for storing the 36"+ Honestly I didn't even know you could store a 33" under the bumper, but for those, I would search the forums for a roof-rack that one of the members made for his 36"+ tire and lights...you would have to drill into the roof, but guys you have 36" tires and then some so big mod's arn't a big deal to y'all lol. Well just a thought!

i have a fullsize spare i take with me 90% of the time, why? i learned the hard way, playing in the creek and ripped the sidewall out with a locked up front end means i have to run the same size tire on both sides (non selectable)
long story short, i now have a 35" spare that matches so i do a 5 tire rotation and dont regret it.
