No you don't need new shock with a leveling kit. If you think you want to add aftermarket shock go with the Bilstiens or Ranchos that feature adjustable spring preload so you don't need a leveling kit.

Since I have a leveled '05 4x4 also, and because I have been debating the tire thing for awhile now, those 285's will fit fine. That's probably the way I will go also (maybe 295's). However, I've also been looking at the BFG A/Tko in 305/65/17.

Several members have fit 35x12.50's (315/70-17's) on 4x4's with leveling kits by using the OEM wheels so you can easily fit 285/70-17's (33x11.50). As a general rule with a leveling kit on the new 4x4's you can fit 35x12.50's by using the OEM wheels or 33 inch tires using wider aftermarket wheels.
