skyjacker springs snapped my struts!
skyjacker springs snapped my struts!
Ok, so when I bought my truck the first owner had installed skyjacker springs for what i was told would level the front of the truck...not a leveling kit, just springs....and believe me, theyre big! But that soesnt mean **** because theres a problem with these gorilla springs...they snapped my struts! The completely broke the factory struts in 2 pieces. So obviously theyre way to strong of a spring for these struts. Im guessing theres 2 ways to fix the problem. One being to buy the oem springs and install a leveling kit to keep the same look. Or 2, to get stronger struts that were made to work with the stronger springs..My question is, does snyone know what kind of struts I need with these springs and where I can get them? Has this happened to anyone else? Thanks
I would call skyjacker and tell them. Act is if you have had the truck the whole time. There stuff is lifetime warranty however this could also be a good chance for you to up grade seeing as how the stock shocks and struts are completely junk in my opinion
Yeah, Ive never heard of it either, thats why when I called skyjacker today I made a complete foll of myself! I bought the truck used and was told they were skyjacker lift coils...I mean theres even a skyjacker sticker on the back of the truck! needless to say, i need to get something to replace the springs...is there a strut spring combo that I can get that will still give the front a level look without the leveling kit? If not Ill have to get ford oem springs and struts with a leveling kit.....ya know what ...**** it! truck is for sale! anyone want it? $17,000 pays off my loan and its yours! loaded! Ill even throw in a touch screen flip up dvd player! $17,000!!!!!

I wonder if he means the 3" lift kit. It has replacement coils and I thought it came w/ struts too.
The 3" lift comes with springs and the shocks. If someone used the SkyJacker springs on the stock shock, it would be applying a constant extension pressure on the shock and cause failure. The SkyJacker springs are powdercoated red, so they would be easy to identify.
Of course, SkyJacker would not be responsible for someone installing springs on the wrong shocks.

bryndon-the springs are powder coated red, so Im sure theyre skyjacker...the thing is, the struts are definately oem...can i just get new struts that the springs wont hurt? Like stronger ones? If so, what kind? Im hoping i can do this because this would be the quickest easiest solution to my problem! thanks for the help! oh and for whoever asked, Im in milford, ma
If you are positive they are SkyJacker (I don't know anyone else that does red powder) you could just order the right SkyJacker shocks and hardware - or any others that are 3" longer than stock. Sounds like someone that doesn't understand suspensions was trying to take a shortcut. That's what scares me when people start stacking kits to get more height... maybe it will work, maybe it won't. But after 30 years of playing with suspensions, I've come to the conclusion that there are a lot of people that understand even better than I, and most work for suspension companies. I let the experts do the real work and engineer the program to work.
Thanks guys, thats exactly what it is. Instead of doing it right, he took the cheap quick way out, knowing that he was selling the truck anyways. Honestly, I rally have no clue how I'd even determine what kind of shocks to order. Or where to order them. Is there something I should look for? A number or measurement? I called skyjacker and they told me that they dont sell a product like mine which is bull**** because they obviously do. I don't even know what to call my setup! Springs? Lift coils?! This sucks!
You need to see if you can buy a set of Skyjacker's shock from their 3 inch suspension lift. Either that, or buy a set of adjustable Bilstien or Rancho shocks for your truck and a set of OEM coils. The Bilstiens and Rancho's feature adjustable spring preload which will allow you to keep your current ride height.

I sold the truck yesterday. Its someone elses problem now! Thanks guys!
