Considering New Shocks

I searched the forums and was not able to find much regarding installing some new shocks myself. Is this a one man job? Can I do it, or is it better to have them installed professionally? Also, is it necessary to install a slightly longer shock in the front when a level kit is installed? One more question. What brand of shock is best. I can get good deals on Rancho and Pro Comp. Thanks in advance!

The front coilover shocks on the 04-07's can be a pain to install. Not only do they support the weight of the truck which means some suspension components need to be seperated, but you have to have a heavy duty spring compressor to remove and reinstall the coilsprings on the new shocks. Most people wont have the tools. You don't need a longer shock for a leveling kit. However, if you buy the Rancho or Bilstien shocks, they have adjustable spring preload which eliminates the need for a leveling kit.
