Question 3in body help!

Gotta question for all you wrench turnin wizards... Im looking for a more aggressive look at a decent price. I thought about going with the 3in body lift and a set of 35‘s, but am unsure how the install is going to go. I don’t have any experience in this area, but I do all my maintenance and try to do all my repairs I can (alternator, starter, other odds and ends). I've thought about it a lot, and it looks like there is a lot of work that goes into body lifts. My question is, how much money on average would I be saving by doing it myself, vs taking it to a shop? Also would a leveling kit and rear block go good with a body lift as well?

Im just trying to tackle this problem, and cant seem to get any help from the other threads. I've seen some of the instructions on the lifts, but I dont have any first hand experience of how hard they really could be.

Any tips and comments would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks,
Casey

doing a body lift is not that hard it is just alot of small things to do it is very time consuming. it will save you around $300-600 depending on your area. if i was you i would get a budy that you trust with a wrench and go for it on a weekent expect it to take a solid 10 hours of work between the two of you. follow the instructions and go slow and you will be fine. good luck.

500$ hear, this was on a 05 F150. If your 3 body mount bushings are pressed in, be prepared to use a press to get them out. Beating them with a hammer is impossible.

It sounds like you are about the same skill level as me. I installed mine without any problems.

Hey wandell, did you have to do any welding at all? An you said all went pretty smooth? Have you had any problems with it thus far? How manyd miles do you have on the lift now? Did you have a buddy help? How long do you think it took, from start to finish. Im pretty pumped about the lift and hope all goes well with theinstall, Im starting to think I'll do it myself now . I'll tell you one the thing tho, if it wasnt for this forum, I dont think I would have talked myself into doing it before.

Thanks guys

the tow hitch requires modification, cutting, and welding.

i called off-road innovations here in tallahassee, and they told me $500 for the 3 inch bodylift. I figured ill do it myself, i put my last rough country lift on myself with a buddy of mine it took a weekend, it was suspension also though. why would the hitch require cutting and weldiing? i havent heard of this before, ive talked to a couple of guys who have the same lift, i am about to purchase mine and getter done!

if you have a hidden tow hitch it has to be cut from the bumper, and kit blocks have to be welded into place. this is if you want to retain towing capabilities.

Yeah well, I guess the hitch sitting a little bit lower doesnt look that bad. Cutting and welding then hoping my 2 bikes dont go rolling down the hill after the hitch falls out the back haha.

What does the average 3" body lift cost if you diy? Is there one brand that stands out quality wise better than others?

You don't have to do anything with the tow hitch on the 97-03's. Nooq is thinking about the new body style. Their was no welding involved. It took me an entire weekend to install mine, but I worked by myself most of the time. You will have to have someone to help when you remove the body mount bolts in the cab. You have to have someone hold the round bushing/nut with a large pair of channel locks or a pipe wrench while you remove the bolts and reinstall them. Also, you will need someone to help hold the bumpers when you remove/reinstall them.

Just finished a 3in body lift on my 05 STX super Saturday took two of us a solid 10 hours to do. The pressed in bushing bolts come out just fine with a big hammer and something solid around the bottom of the bushing. Running Mickey ThompsonLT 315/70R17 Baja on stock rims. 2 1/2 leveling kit also.
