Question Help about FX-4 suspension

Okay, first off, Im new here, but I've read all the forum rules and regs. Im also going to be a new ford owner in a few hours, when I pick up my new 03 5.4 fx4 150. I checked the forum and searched the forums and couldnt find anything about the FX4 suspension package. So I hope im not reliving and old thread! I also hope I hit the right category! Sorry if I didn't and I'll work on it! Im sure lots of you guys are sick of newbie f150 owners asking dumb questions. Im never going GM again and I cant bring myself to buy a rice truck. I was just curious to what it has to offer that the regular stock 4x4's don't.
To my understanding it offers skid plates, bigger tires, different rims, FX4 sticker haha, and maybe larger shocks? I'm pretty sure it doesn't include 4.10 gears. Actually what Im asking is it really worth it or any different? I would have just searched google or went onto the fords site, but I wanted opinions of all you trusted forum posters! Ive learned a lot just by reading all of your posts and hopefully someday I can help out on some of the threads.

Can anyone help me better understand this package?
( I'd be using the truck for everything, towing, trail riding, daily driver )

Thank you guys so much!
(I hope this ford does me good!)

Casey,

You pretty much explained it. The FX4 package is basically the same as the old "off road" package. It's just a marketing ploy to compete with the Z-71 and TRD packages.

Also, 3.73 gears were available with the FX4 package.

You seemed pretty well "armed" with the correct info "newbee"....looks like you've done some homework. The "FX4 OFF-ROAD PACKAGE" is an actual off-road suspension package offered from Ford. It usually includes the beefier Rancho shocks as well as skid plates and like you said the "stickers" (which I personally think look better in the trash, most F-150's look "cleaner" without them). I recently had a 03 FX4 Screw (which unfortunately did'nt like a particular ice patch on I-25 in Wyoming and took me on a wild ride which ended up on it's side in the snow, but that's another story for another time). I'm in the process now of purchasing a 04 FX4 Screw (new body style, see pics of it in my gallery). I personally like the FX4 options over the Lariat's or XLT's..but that's just me.

Oh well....anyhoo, WELCOME to the site and let's see some pics of that new FX4.

i thought the only difference between the standard 4x4 & the fx4 shocks were the rancho sticker

if i remember correctly theyre the same size & valving
but the rancho sticker makes them perform much better

Thats how it works with import rice burner "tuner" cars. Each sticker ads about 12 hp.

Wow That sucks !!!! Sounds like my kind of luck. I really dig these 03's. Mines an Fx4 and XLT, dont really know the diff of them combined, but oh well. Thanks for the post Dadscrew, That 04 FX4 looks sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet! Beautiful truck!! The 03 was a one owner and came with duals when I bought it, they sound tough haha, Im really happy about my first ford!

Sorry If there are to many pics, Im just excited haha, I know its nothin special. But it took awhile to get up the cash flow for a nice F150. You definitely dont get rich by being a grunt in the marine corps thats for sure haha.

Thanks,
Casey

Hey grunt; It's onefine looking ride. By the looks of your pics now would be a good time for a road trip to Florida, come on down the red fish are going nuts.

Nice truck. I like the look of that body style with the FX4 package. Now all you have to do is get rid of those crappy stock Wrangler RT/S's and get you some bigger tires. Maybe some BFG's or Toyo's
