I have an 06 2wd 4.6, 6" Fabtech, 35x13x18 Toyo AT. I'll have this truck for a while so I want to make it last. In order to put the least amount of stress on it but get the most out of it, what changes should I make?

Gears.

 

Start with being gentle on it and changing fluids on schedule - those are the easiest and best ways to make one last a long time. General maintanence (right out of the owner's manual) including filters and checking tire pressure & rotating, etc.

What rear gears do you have? And transmission type (manual or auto)? With the bigger tires, it will depend what type of rear gears you have whether a gear change is in order.

Other than that... I'll bet a few more suggestions pop up.

 

Ya I figured gears were first on the list. I have 3.73 ls. I guess I'll have to read up on it. Any idea of what that will cost? Thank u!

It varies a lot around the country - check around your area. One caution, go to a shop that is experienced - possibly even the dealer. I've seen gears installed by shops that didn't know what they were doing - a buddy trusted "a local mechanic"... long story short, both gear setsa in his 4x4 were toast, inside 1,000 miles.

 

i just got quoted for for $1200 but i have a 4x4 so probably half that.

 

I'd say about $600-900.

 

im getting new gears in mine for 380.. 180 for the gears and 200 for them to set them up for me..

Mine's an '02 2wd, but i think it had the 373's in it too, we went 455's (Slightly over-geared, so you have to do the tuner to correct speedo & shift points) but it sure as hell picks up nice

Intake & exhaust are good too!
