i am about to buy a 2006 4x4 screw and i was wondering the difference in the fx4 and 4x4. i know the suspension is different, but if i am planning on putting a lift on it then i would just be replacing what i spent all the extra money on for a fx4, right??? oh and by the way the 4x4 is coming with the skid plates

 

i think the main differences are on the inside. If you are looking at a lariat the leather is different, the dash trim and gauges. The lariats also have the steering wheel controls for the audio and climate control.

I believe the fx4's may sit a little taller to, something to do with the shocks i believe. i am sure someone else will have the answer to that one.

 

I beleive the suspension is the same now. The FX4 has became a trim package like, XLT and Lariat. The FX4 also has different wheels/tires and a different grill.

so then there is no difference in the fx4 and 4x4 other than looks? no better preformance in the fx4?

 

looks that way, I do like the fx4 grill though. Personally i dont know which other line your looing at, but i was tossed up between the fx4 & lariat and decided on the lariat due to the seats alone.

I just love the FX4 over the Lariat/XLT I liked the colors that the FX4 offered versus the Lariat. Either way, they are both great as they still are Fords!

 

FX4s come with un-painted fender flares, painted bumpers, skid plates, 'Rancho' shocks, different instrument panel, different grille. Nothing really extra to help you offroad. Its your choice, I chose the Lariat twice so far and lifted both of them.

 

What about the skid plates? Does the current FX4 package include them where they're optional on the others?
