to lift or lower that is the question

hey guys i have a 2002 2wd silver scab with the 4.6, i was going to combine my leveling kit and a spindle lift and some 295/70/17 terra grapplers, but i am starting to think about lowering it a little bit and putting some 22s on it instead. what do you guys think? i do have to be able to tow, and i need to be able carry 2 dirtbikes and gear without it bottoming out, so i will not slam it, thinking about the stock hieght of a lightning or so. i am looking for opinions on what you guys think looks better. i have recently decided that it will not go offroading anymore because me and some buddies went offroading in the mud and it was way too much work to get it looking better again. anyway thanks guys

I've seen some really nice trucks lowered on some forum members galleries, but I just rather own a truck that is lifted because that is what I think a truck is all about. To be able to sit higher than everyone else on the road.

I would lift it, if you were to put 22's on it, you will put alot of stress on the brakes, way more than if you were to run 33's (equivalant itre size ) also, you need to get the bikes out to where you ride right? i know if i got new 22's and got them all scrartched up taking my bikes out i would be pissed off... Just my 2 cents

If you lift that is gonna be high up there to pull bikes out of. If you do a hanger drop, and i recomend the Eibach 2" or 3" adjustable hanger, you still retain your ride quality of the rear, and maintain payload capabilities.

I vote lowered, but i have a pretty similar truck to yours, so maybe its just me...

And maybe 20" is a good compramise that you can still have some rubber left for when you hit the dirt or gravel parking lot to unload the bikes...

lowering would look better, I dont get why ppl lift 2wd truck just odd IMO, but yeah, well hey, I have a 4x4 F150 I want lowered so... lmao, I only need 4x4 for traction in winter, but yeah since you have a 2wd please lower it to like Harley or Lightning height

4x4's get lifted and 2x4's get lowered.

To defeat all the problems in this thread you should get some nice all terrain tires and some nice rims and have an adjustable, possibly air suspension. This way you can use the all terrain tires to go off road after raising your vehicle to go dirtbiking and you can lower it again and have nice rims for when you are in the city. I'm also pretty sure you can stiffen the suspension for when you tow.

Both are cool. It's just up to you to decide what you like best.

how much lower do the lightnings sit than a regular 2wd? i was thinking if i do get 22s, i will probably get 305/40's which would be a decent amount of tire so it would be ok for occasional dirt parking lots and stuff. i dont know i just cant really make up my mind, they both look much better and i cant decide which i want to go with. the only real problem with the lift is that the truck is allready slow enough, and even bigger tires will make it that much worse. i should be getting the specail email from troyer soon though anyway thanks for the opinions guys and keepe em coming

99-02 lightnings were 1/2 drop
03-04 lightnings are 1/1
2000 HD i think was stock ride height, maybe 0/1 drop
01-03 HD are 1/2 drop
06-07 HD are stock height

IMO, I say chrome/polished would look good.
