97 Suspension Refresh without Lift?

My 97 F-150 XLT 4x4 Supercab is long overdue to have it's suspension refreshed. I bought the truck in 2002 and I have done no suspension maintenance/parts replacement. The entire suspension may be the original build suspension.

I have no desire to lift the truck...but do desire to make the truck more durable in the process of refreshing it. Any suggestions?

leaf springs, shocks, bushings. all that is prone to wear out over time. your springs may have sagged a bit so when you put them on the truck may lift an inch or so. with shocks you'll notice an improvement in ride quality. bushings will help with ride quality as well. they'll also help tighten the suspension up.

Shocks, ball joints and tie rod ends are the high wear items on our trucks. I'm not sure what the best replacement ball joints and tie rods are, but just about any aftermarket shock will be an improvement over the OEM shocks.

Thanks for the replies thus far.

My friends recently put edelbrock shocks on his expedition, and gave them rave reviews...

Any brand recommendations for the recommendations?

Polyurethane bushings?

edelbrock makes a good shock. bilstein, rancho, pro comp, fabtech. all good brands, i know i forgot a few.

superlift makes a good leaf spring. any urethane bushing would be best.
