FX4 Identification Question

I am considering purchasing an 01 F150 Lariat Supercab 4x4. The seller is unsure whether it has the off road package and claims to have had decals removed from the sides. My question is how can I identify whether it has the off road package when I look at it? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Well, if it is an 01, it's not an FX4. The FX4 package was added as an option for the 2002 model year. (Yeah, I just added FX4 decals on mine) The FX4 package replaced the origninal Off Road package and added different wheels, decals and "Rancho branded" shocks which were valved the same. I think the easiest way to tell if the 01 had the Off Road package is to look underneath and see if it has the skid plates (front crossmember, transfer case and gas tank).

Thanks

Thanks for the tips. It sounds like an easy check to just take a look underneath. I appreciate your help.

You can tell by the wheels. If you have a Lariat with off road package you would have the same wheels I do, 17-inch cast aluminum wheel, included with the off road package, see link below. The Standard 01 Lariat had 17", 5 spoke, chrome plated, steel wheels. I have a PDF copy of an 01 F-150 Brochure and I included the description of the off road package which is really called the "4x4 Off-Road Equipment Group" so you'll know what it came with.

[01 F-150 Brochure Description]
4x4 Off-Road Equipment Group: P265/70Rx17SL OWL all-terrain tires
with 17" cast aluminum wheels (4); skid plates (fuel tank, transfer
case and frame front crossmember); HD shock absorbers; 3.55 rear
axle ratio; 4x4 Off-Road decal (late availability SuperCrew)
