Regearing and fabtech lift?
Regearing and fabtech lift?
If i have a 2wd wih 5.4L engine, and am gettin a 35" tire on oem wheels, would i need to regear, or should i be ok, if i am installing a 6" fabtech lift, and with this lift, will 35x12.5x18 fit on oem wheels with this kit? It says on the site with certain tires they may not fit or may need some minor modifications, i was hoping to not have to do any so checking to see if i could fit them plain, i also added a leveling kit and am doing a rear add a leaf. Let me know if i will need to do changed for the tires or if they will even fit, i think the backspacing part will fit and i dont think they are too wide, especially with the leveling which offset me a little, but i am not sure. Thank you!
No you dont have to but its a good idea too your really increasing the rotational mass of the tire so it much harder on the engine and tranny plus speedo will be off unless you reprogram
for the most of us if you have the the 3.55 gears 4.10's will make your truck act like it never had the new tire increase this is the route i plan to do on my 97 35's, 4.10's 6in fabtech and 2in body
a brake upgrade is probly a good idea aswell

summitracing the best site ive seen for gears however you can do some hunting and make them lower there prices a little 4.10's for my 8.8in axle cost $420 with the basic install kits now you dont have the 8.8in i belive the 5.4L has a 9.2 but im probly wrong
some one well correct me
most people pay about $450 for gears and another $500 to install but you can do ur home work many sites and offroad mag's teach to how to install these gears and the tools needed
there gears will pay for them self in a year or so in gas ur greatly gonna save gass doing this way makes it easyier for the truck to turn the tires
hope this helps you

I just had the Fabtech 7.5" lift installed plus had it regeared to 456s running 35s and I feel a little bit of loss in power but not a lot.I'm hoping that an intake and exhaust bring her back to normal.

you can gear when ever you want doesnt have to be right away the special tool is a pinion depth gauge really its only purpose is to give you a idea where it should be then from there add or subtract your shims yes improper install can cause more wear and whinning ive done 2 but not a ford axle more of centering the gear wear easyier than it sounds but ur gonna be aligning for a while
and yes for both axles most people pay 500 to install them

thank you all. I just am getting close to having the money for the lift, but if then i need to save another 1000 or so before i can do it because i need the gears done at the same time then its going to such, but i dont want to ruin anything on my truck, so i am just making sure its ok to do them earlier.
red, those graphics are easy to see through, they definatly tint the back lookin in, but trying to look out is not a problem at all, it makes everything a little darker, and if you take time to look, you can see the graphic, but there is no real issue being able to see out of it.
