2x4 vs. 4x4 Shocks

What is different on a 4x4 from a 2x4 as far as suspension and shocks go? Does the 4x4 have different shocks but the same springs???? Can I put 2x4 shocks on my 2006, F150, SCrew, 4x4 , for a softer ride???? Anyone know????

The only difference that I know of are the shocks. The 4x4's are 3" longer than the 4x2's. The springs should be the same. I have talked to the guys at the local Ford dealership and they say that the springs for both have the same stock codes. Is this true? I have no idea. I don't put a whole lot of stock in what they say. I mean, these are the guys that ordered the wrong size tires and the wrong brand 2 times in a row.

Hope that helps.

Thanks. The springs appear to be identical to me from a casual observation. I wonder if the 4x4 shocks are stiffer than the 2x4??
