4x4 strut conversion
4x4 strut conversion
one of my buddys from across the globe told me that he put a set of 4x4 strut/coilovers in his 2 wheel drive 05 f150 and that it lifted the front almost 3 inches.im not sure why it would is the 4x4 heavier or is something different.does anyone know anything about this and where i could score a set cheaply.thanks guys
There is member here who has done this. Try a search of the 04-06 forum. Apparantly, the 4x4 coilovers are longer. Personally, I think a leveling kit installation would be just as easy and cheaper, unless somone just gives you a set of 4x4 coilovers.
Really?????
I am actually glad that someone else wrote this other than myself. Yea I did the same conversion and the front of the truck did rise by 3". Don't understand why and it makes no sense. If using stock parts is not enough of an advantage how about this one.......There is absolutely no clearance issues with the upper control arm, not even close to rubbing and the truck is easily aligned back to factory specs.
I have not been back on this board because some other member that does not believe anything unless he sees it in a photo. Frankly I did not have the time....if he does not believe it, then tough. Probably only reads books with pictures anyways...DUH.
If you look on e-bay, you can find brand new 4x4 shocks for a lot less than the cost of a leveler and a lot more advantages too. If the manufacturers of those kits find out, they are going to lose a lot of business.
Another added benefit for the 4x2's is that the truck rides a lot firmer. Which I prefer BTW. You are going to have to change out the rear shocks also and put in the 2" block. I ended up putting on a 1" rise shackle and the 2" block. Looks great.
DO not put on the 4x4 shock AND a front leveler, you will get a 5" lift in front and the truck will look aggressive, (also slight rubbing on the control arm) but I don't think you will be able to bring it back to factory alignment specs. Unfortunately I did not get to test this because when the alignment guy saw the truck he said it was way off and probably could not be corrected, so I just drove out of the parking lot and removed them. Maybe someone can try it out for sure.
For all the doubters, I suppose I will try and take some pics one day and post it, but I am very busy running my company and don't often have the time.
Later.

Yamon,
If you have enough time to post and to do these mods. You clearly have 30 seconds to take a picture. People don't believe you because you keep on claiming things and don't back them up. If it weren't for pictures everyone on here would have 10 inch kits from Rize with 5k priced rims.

Besides after ranting like you have been and find out that it is true, you'll be the one that looks like a dumass.
Why don't you go ahead and check the classifieds now and see that I am selling the front levelers as well as the coilovers from the 2WD. Unless that is, you think it is a trap and I am going to rip someone off. Hey, your loss if you don't believe it.

There is no way to lift the front of these trucks and not throw the UCA into a more stressed position. The only thing you can do is to get an actual lift kit. Any time you add length to the strut assembly (I don't care where that length comes from) you put added stress on things. If that is what you have chosen to do..fine. I'm not buying it till I see it.

By the way, YaMon thanks for doing this, it gave me an alternative to the spacers which kinda worried me with the balljoint stuff I had read about.

Hey Guys, I have a buddy with a 2004 2WD who wants to buy my 2 1/2" AS spacer to level out his truck but this sounds like a better option. If I am reading correctly my stock 06' FX4 shocks will level out his front end with no changes in the rear? That would be cool because he has 40-50k on the truck and could use new shocks anyway.

Dumb question-did you have to take the spring off your stock shocks and install them on the 4WD coilovers? I only have the struts-no the coils.
