Helper springs

My 1993 F150 sags some when I tow my 3000 lb trailer. The tongue weight is 400 lb. I would like to add helper springs and am looking for recommendations. I would like a progressive type so the unloaded ride does not suffer. Good experiences? parts to avoid?

Thanks
Bill

1st off you need to distribute another 100# further back on the trailer. The correct tongue balance for a 3000# trailer is only 300#.

To answer you question. Just about any spring (leaf) will alter the unloaded ride unless it is set up as an overload and only works after compressing your factory springs. I think for your application you'll be happier with air bags. They mount between the factory spring and the frame above the axle. They don't effect the ride at all until you pressurize the bag for a load. Your spring rate remains just like the factory, but as you put more and more weight on the bag, it gets stiffer and stiffer as the pressure increases.

Hellwig Progressive. Put them on my 98 stepside to pull a 21' boat....... can't beet them. Empty ride is great and they keep the truck level when loaded. Allot better ride than air bags.
