Problems after lift kit installed...HELP!!
Problems after lift kit installed...HELP!!
Hey guys....Im having some problems after my 3in spindles were put on. I get a shimmy or vibration at different speeds and don't know what it is. Thought it was the tires, so I had them re-balanced. THey didnt do it before the lift, so I have ruled them out. ALso, I have had all new brakes put on the front (pads/rotors), but the bearings are still the old ones. I don't think it would be a tie-rod end or ball-joint because it only does it at certain speeds. But when it is doing the shimmy, if you let go of the steering wheel, it moves back and forth rapidly.....Not inches or anything, but you can see it moving back and forth. Could it be my wheel bearings??? I need this fixed before I go to Illinois this weekend.....please help with suggestions, ideas, etc. of what to look for. My truck has 88K miles on it with the original steering components, front shocks, etc. THe spindles are Rough Country 3in spindles with a "straight" 3in block in the back. Please help guys....thanks in advance....
Ive also been reading about the stabilizers you can put on it. THink that will help? Ive also read tons of posts about steering shimmys in F150's, 2wd and 4wd(I know they're totally different). I think I'll try that and have everything checked AGAIN. I did grease the Idler arm good today, and it seemed to tighten up the steering some, but havent checked it on the freeway yet. Man I hate this.....
Is everything tight and to factory specs for sure?
Worn out bushings or balljoints maybe.
I would think it would be an alignment problem too, if the steering wheel kinda shimmies back and forth. Might be worth getting another one and see what happens.

Well, I haven't figured it out. But after driving it all the way from NKY to Chicago and back.....I liked the way it rode before it was lifted, so it's coming back off. I'm getting a GREAT deal on some 22's and decent tires, so Im gonna go that route. Anybody want to buy my lift kit??lol

So much misinformation on here. An alignment will never cause a shake. First thing that causes a shake 9 times out of 10 is tire balance. Also check to see that when you put your wheels back on that the wheels have ceeted up to the hubs 100%, this could cause a shake and eventually sheer your studs. Next thing to check out are your tie rod ends, idler and pitman arms and then check ball joints.
