I have a '97 4x2 150k mls. The bottom leaf (of 3)on one of my leaf springs broke in the middle at the axle. Other than a load or 2 of mulch a year and some lumber from time to time I have not done any major hauling with this truck. I did some looking around and found there is a recall on the 4x4 for the same problem. I called a dealership and Ford, and was told the recall was not for my vehicle (vin#).

Has this happened to anyone, or does anyone have any suggetions on how to get Ford to cover/expand the recall for my vehicle?

 

Dude, it has 150k miles...suspensions wear out over time. You got a good run off those springs, buy some new ones from JC Whitney and call it a day.

 

I don't "recall" the recall being for busted springs, but rather, the clamp that holds the spring pack together could break and that allowed the lower spring to sometimes pivot and the end (on the drivers side) could come into contact with the gas tank.... Then, I don't know if it was an actual "recall", but just a "TSB"??

My 97 has the same weak springs too..... I've not busted one, but then I only loaded it up one time when it hit the bump stops and that was with only around #1000 or so...... I got some Hellwig overload springs and that cured the bump stop problem when loading it up with #1000 of stuff!!
