Quick! Ordering Monroe shocks. Which ones?

I'm getting ready to order shocks for my 97 expy 4x4 with a 3" body and 35's.

i can get the sensatracs for $33 or the reflex's for $39 locally. the monroe website says the reflexs are more suited to bigger trucks/suv's, but the guy i talked to said the sensatracs are a heavier duty shock, which would lead me to believe THEY would be better suited for my truck. Which ones would you guys prefer and why? i'll be gettign them soon so a quick response is appreciated. thanks.

Same shock....different valve. Which ever one you can get at a better deal.

All these different valves are just marketing. Now if the shock body has a larger diameter and thus a larger piston/valve it will be stiffer for off road and rough terrain. Monroe makes some larger dia. shocks. Ever quite a bit bigger than their Rancho line.

well i went with the sensatracs. MUCH improved over my 130K oem shocks but then again, anything would have been an improvement. biggest pita was the left rear shock. gas tank was in the way, but it wasn't too hard. squeak from the front end is gone and was caused by a worn bushing at the top of the shock. anyways, i'd call it a good buy

SensaTracs

1idjack ,

Congrats! I'm still enjoying my SensaTracs after two weeks and almost 600 miles. The ride is much quieter. With only 50K on my originals I got annoyed with all the noise and vibration I'd hear on even the smallest "bumps" (cracks in the road even those covered with tar, expansion joints, 1/4 inch deep "potholes", etc).

These shocks may be too soft for some applications (Towing, heavy cargo, etc.). But for the way I use my truck they are perfect! I recomend them highly.
Not sure how they'll perform two years from now, But I expect they'll be fine. Quality counts!

Bill

I've had excellent results with the Reflex as well. I changed mine out 3 weeks after buying my truck (37K miles on the ticker) last October. My truck rides like a luxury sedan on the highway, just took another 1200 mile trip last weekend and it looks like I may be going again this weekend. 56K miles on it now.
