R&R Rear Shocks
R&R Rear Shocks
I know I am missing something here - but I do need some help.
I am removing and replacing my OEM shocks on a '97 F-150, Lariat, ext, 4WD. I have gotten the front ones replaced, but CANNOT get the rear shocks to come off. I have still got the lower portion through bolted into the frame saddle, but when I attempt to turn the top bolt (bwtn the bed and frame rail) off, it will NOT loosen. I have tried holding the plastic dirt sleeve as it does want to turn, leading me to believe that the spindle itself is turning. Unlike the front set w/an upper and lower bolt (one to hold while loosening the other) I cannot locate such a configuration on the rear.
Are there any secrets or tips for this? I would just as soon put a pair of vise grips to the top spindle to prevent turning (as it goes away w/the old shock) but then I am prevented from accessing it w/a socket.
Any advice/help here is most appreciated.
Thanks

hen I took mine off, I had the same problem. Yank that plastic dust sleeve off and grab the shaft with a big honkin' pair of pliers. It doesn't matter if you scarf up the shaft since you're gettin' rid of them anyways.
