Lifting

Hey folks, first time poster here with a few questions about getting a suspension lift. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm thinking a 3" lift for my '97 new body style F150. First off, I don't want to spend too much on it (no more than $500, hopefully less if), where can I go for a decent lift in that price range, if at all possible? Second...is it me or is it everywhere I look it goes like '83-96 year range, and completely skips '97?? Also, how hard is it to install? I have two friends that are pretty good with this kind of stuff as long as there is good directions....

Thanks again........Steve

Well, you arent going to find a suspension lift for a 4x4 for $500 or less...nothing of decent quality anyway.
2wd would be tough as well. It depends on how your truck is configured, but Fabtech makes some spindle lifts for under $1000. Check out 4wheelparts.com

I would suggest a 3" Performance Accessories body lift given your price range. Will work on a 4x4 or 4x2, and its relatively simple to install with a few buddies.

i also recomend the 3" body lift it will be the only lift in your price range and it doesnt effect your suspension ride at all, good luck

Thanks for the help and sorry for all the questions. It's 4X4 by the way. Now the same friend I have helping me install it keeps telling me no matter what don't get a body lift because of the center of gravity and it will screw my truck up in the long run if I go higher than 2", the trucks springs weren't meant to handle it or something. He wants me to go on JCwhitney and get a Tuff Country suspension lift for about. The 3" Performance Accessories kit looks to be what I want, I just want to make sure its worth doing before I jump into anything.

Just how much experience does this "friend" have with lifts!! It will change you CG no more than a suspension lift. and if done Correctly will cause no problems!! Best bag for the buck and you'll have money left over for some gap guards!!

Well that definitely clears it up for me....I was thinking the same...how much difference can a body lift vs. suspension lift have on the CG. Now to just get it installed after I buy it...

I agree. It doesn't sound like your friend is very knowledgable about lifts. A body lift will affect your center of gravity less than a suspension lift, since only the body is being raised. I am on my third truck with a body lift and have never had a problem.

Your buddy doesnt seem to know what he is talking about. It doesnt matter HOW you lift a truck, if you lift it, the center of gravity will be higher.
