Shocks for my 01 F150 SCrew 4x

I brought my 01 5.4 SuperCrew 4x4 to the dealer today for its 60k maintenance. They discovered that one of my rear shocks are leaking.

This is not an emergency that I need to get fixed right away since I dont tow or haul any weight in the bed.

To have the dealership do it, I'm looking at about $250+ to replace both of my rears.

Does anyone have any recommendations on aftermarket shocks that I might be better off going with instead of the stock?

I hardly do any off roading, so I dont need anything special.. I dont need air adjustable.. just regular rear shocks for 99.5% street driving.

Please and thank you

I'm amazed they can quote you a price like that with a straight face. The stock shocks are crap anyway and are typically shot at 30K-40K miles. For my personal preference (100% street driving, no offroad) I like the Monroe Reflex at about $40 each or $160 for a set of four. These are much better than the OEM and have a lifetime warranty. Available at Advanced Auto and anywhere else that sells Monroe. For a few more dollars many here like the Bilsteins. I've never used them so I cannot recommend, but they are popular and I've heard prices of $230-$260 for all four shocks.

Do yourself a big favor and RUN AWAY from the stealership and find a reputable place to buy your shocks. Get all four and you won't regret it. Your truck will be more fun to drive as well as much safer and more stable.

$250? Thats a joke.
Do it yourself, a few sockets and an hour or two of time is all you need.

There are plenty of good brand shocks out there. But you need to replace both rears or all 4 shocks, not a good idea to replace only one after 60k miles.

For brands, there are alot of good ones. For your application you would probably like Bilstein or Monroe...I think my Ranchos handle the road pretty well too, but I think for a truck that stays on the road, the Monroes or Bilsteins would suit your needs better.

I don't know how those con artists can sleep at night. I prefer the Rancho RS9000s and rear shock installation is a simple do-it-yourself. Whatever you do, don't bend over for those *****.

I put 4 KYB Monomax on my Screw 4X4 almost a year ago now. Mostly highway driving to my hunting area, then, mild off roading for a few weeks, then back to highway for another year.

Been very happy with performance in both instances. I also tow a small travel Trailer, but that is too light to make any judgment with.

Rancho is having their annual buy 3 get 1 free sale, at least according to Summit. RXS is agood shock, but a little firm for most people on the street. I had RX9000's on my las F-150 and plan to get the RS9000x this time. Sam's OffRoad has had the best prices in the past, but their web site does not list the sale yet.
