Really weird problem

Well, the lift is complete. 3 inch spindle and rear add a leaf. I was going to back it out of my garage and I went to put it in reverse and nothing happened and I hit the gas a little and still nothing happened. I looked down at my dash and my speedo said 15mph and I put it in park and it made a scratching noise when I shifted it in. I HAVE NO CLUE what it could be. I guess I'm going to sit around with a broke truck until a shop opens up or until someone can maybe give me an idea of what might have happened during installation. Please repsond if you can help. Thanks

I had the same problem when i put on a body lift. The shift cable was messed up. Mine was an automatic. There is a shift lever on the side of your transmission on the drivers side. It is easy to see from under the truck. Put your truck in park and get under there and make sure that the lever is also in part. It shifts just like your shifter in the truck each click is a different gear. I think that might clear up your problem. Maybe not, but that is what I did.

blackflareside, hey I got up under my truck and looked for the shifter, I am not sure what it is and or how I can tell what gear it is in. I don't see anything labeled. So maybe give me some more information on how to find and put the cable in park. Also, I didnt mention it in the original post but when I put it in drive, it does the same thing as reverse, it will rev to about 1.5K and then the speedo says I am doing about 15mph when its sitting there. I really need to get this sucker fixed so any other suggestions would help because I am lost on this one.

Heres some more to add. Lifting my truck might have been the worst idea ever. It seems nothing has went wrong. I don't know if this problem is directly related to the truck not going into gear but I was pushing my truck out of my garage and it was making a noise like something was getting strained when pushing it backwards. Then I stood back and saw my front wheels are like not lined up, they angle out and are not straight. I also went under my truck and had a friend shift gears and the shifter on the transmission was shifting, so I don't know that the problem is with the shifter. Maybe someone could have this amazing mechanical background where some of this would make sense when all pieced together. I dont know if the spindles that I installed messed this up or the leafs. I am very lost. I installed the new spindles exactly like they came out. This is stressing me out because I dont know where to start and I dont want to keep messing with it more. The clicking noise when shifting from reverse to park is getting worse. Does anyone have any clue what is going on because it would help greatly because I have a feeling if I have to get it towed to a shop it is just going to add up to a whole lot of money.

after a lift you need an alignment as for no gear are you sure your transfer case is in gear it sounds like it might be in neutral

WOW!!! Well I got some good news. I was inspecting the truck with a buddy of mine and we were looking at my lines to inspect them. Then he was like woah, look at this.... it was the drive shaft out of the transmission. When we dropped the rear end, the drive shaft slipped out of the transmission and we didn't even see it. So that would explain all the problems. I took the bolts off the connection of the drive shaft and rear end (it was freaking hard to get the bolts broken) and then reinserted the drive shaft. After I put it back in I cranked it up and everything is fine except for the front tires. The camber is very big, I don't even want to drive it. I hope that firestone can fix the camber so I wont have to put on a camber kit, but it seems like no one has had to do that so far. But I am sure some of you were wondering the diagnoses. Thanks for your replies, it at least got us a start to get looking for problems. Ill try to post pics this week of the lift w/ new tires. Hopefully Dicount Tire can squeeze some 315/75 w/ a little trimming. If not Ill settle for 305/70. Later.

I think you problems are just begining. When you lifted the truck did you lower the transmission crossmember in order to keep the angle from the trans to the rear the same? Obviously if the driveshaft fell out it means the yoke can't be in the trans as far as it was before. Jack up the rear of the truck and let the rear hang. See how much the yoke is into the trans. Remember if the rear tires leave the ground for any reason like a speed bump your shaft is comming out and then slamming back into a rotating splined transmission output shaft. Check it to be sure.
