general ????
Ok, so i'm new...been reading many posts to try & frame this intelligently. So I've got a '02 F150 s/c 4x4, not fancy but I love it. I've done some minor cosmetics to it, and some stereo upgrades, but what I really want is a suspension lift.
I've been checking out Fabtech. Just wondering if the shop here is trying to gouge me.... For new tires(unsure of the brand) & rims(helo maxx 18's), the Fabtech 6" Performance lift w/ labor to incl alignment for five grand. Are they givin' this gal the run around?
I'd like to do it, but then I'm worried about the gears. Any advice, recommendations. As much as I would love tinkering, I've never really done any & don't think I really have the skills or knowledge.
and the crew in the zoo crew is for the crew ridin' with me, not the truck itself..... TIA

Thanks, I'm looking to find a few more estimates.
Wish I knew more about what I'm getting into with a lift kit. I don't want to be sorry afterwards.
thought I'd have gotten a bit more input, but guess newbies don't rate replies

Gear Ratio and Tire Size?
Tire size and gear ratio is the important part. If you go too big it could really increase the distance that it takes to stop that big ole beast, requiring bigger rotors, break pads, and stronger calipers. And, if you are geared too high, it could really dog your truck!
Questions that need answered before you decide.
What is your gear ratio?
What size are the new tires?
Might also be helpful to know what size engine you have in your truck. If you have the smaller V8, it may not perform to your expectation with bigger tires.

Yeah, I think I've bitten off more than I really want to chew. As much as I'd like a "bigger" truck. I don't know enough about it to do it right. Plus it seems like everything just adds up...buying one item leads to buying another and on and on and on......Plus I do have the small V8... w/ 3.55
and my dream would be a Fabtech 6" suspension lift and the biggest damn tires I could put under it. Can't remember exactly what the guy from the truck shop had said, but I do remember they were gonna be on 18's versus the old 16's now.
I just stopped by the dealership and looked at an 05. wow it's beautiful. FX4 package ::::dreaming:::::
gonna look into it more over the w/e. thanks for the help

Sorry to bust your bubble.
Those aftermarket guys just wanna sell something. Later on when you were mad because you rear ended two or three old ladies, and couldn't take off on a hill without being in 4LO, they would tell you that you should beef up your brakes and lower your gear ratio.
Good Luck on that FX4.

thanx.....
The FX4 is pretty sweet.... but it's not like I really need to get rid of my 'old' truck, I've barely put 25K on it, and Jan is the first month w/o a payment.... Just lookin' for something to do with my truck...
Maybe i'd be better off beefing up the 'stang?
