Replacement shocks

Hi, I have a 2000 F150 4X4, with about 40000 miles. I'm going to be installing a Hellwig rear swaybar, and I was thinking of buying a set of RS9000x. For the money is that the best shocks I can buy?

Those are one of the most recommended shocks here. I had a set on my last truck and loved them. The adjustable feature is great.

I just (last night) replaced my stock shocks with the Bilstein product. Absolutely great ! Firm but comfortable ride. Little rills and bumps are gone, big bumps are much more controlable. Body roll is greatly reduced.

My empahsis is on-road, and I don't carry things that often, so the adjustable feature didn't interest me much. I just don't think I'd use it often. If I did trailer or carry a lot of weight, I'd probalby have gone Rancho. Certainly all the owners of all three of these brands seem to be really happy - I think you can't go wrong with any of them.

Good luck on your upgrade, and be sure you have the right tools for the tops of the rears. They're not easy to get to. Rest of the job is straighforward enough.

Thanks for reply,

I'm going to order a set of shocks next month which ones I don't know. The in cab remote system for rancho shocks are not avalable untill next month but I will continue with reserch on others shocks.

what tools do you you use to remove shocks? I would think if not socket a rachet wrench would do it .

you are right 2byford,those rear shocks were a pita.
You can only turn the top nut like half a turn each time and the nut below it to keep the shock from turning is a bioch to get to.
i suggest a pair of vice grips to hold the lower nut while removing the top nut.
The bottom bolt at the bottom of the shock is a piece of cake with air tools.

Rancho 9000s

Hey guys,

I too am trying to decide which shock to put on my FX4. I don't know if I will use the adjustability of the 9000s that much...I'm thinking of going with the rancho rsx 17000s. Anyone out there have any experience with these.

For those of you looking at the 9000s, though, I was surfing around doing some pricing last night and Sams Off Road samsoffroad.com has the 9000s at a pretty good deal. For $289.00 you get four shocks and the automatic in-cab controller(it may also cover shipping).

The rsx shocks are 199.00 right now with free shipping---a little better than Summit.

Any comments on shock choice would be appreciated.
