New Ford owner has tire questions

I am in the process of purchasing a 1999 F150 4X4 Supercab. It sits lower in the front and I'd like to level it and put the biggest tires I can use on the stock rims. I see on other posts about the 17" wheels but this one only has 16" stock chrome wheels. What size tire can I put on this truck with these wheels? Do you know how wide these wheels are? Can I "crank up the torsion bars" on this truck? If it even has them. My '96 F150 has coil springs. I have not even looked under the truck yet as I won't get it till Wed. or Thur. but I'm anxious to get started. I will buy new rims if I must. Thanks in advance. dirttoo

well most likely they are 16 by 8" and the biggest tire you can put on there is 12 1/2 inches wide, it doesnt really matter how tall as long as the wheel can handle it, as with the torsion bars yes it has them and if you crank them up all the way it will ride difrent it will be stiff, the best way to correct the front to rear rake(that is what it is called) is to get a lift i need to know more info on what you want to do with the truck, let me know

I'm mostly looking to level it out and put the biggest tire I can fit then. From reading on here it looks like 285 75 16 will fit and that will be fine if it does. ??? Thanks
