Torsion bars/bigger tires

I know a million people have asked the question before but I cant seem to find any conclusive answers, so I need some help. I used the search function and could not come up with my answer. My question is: On a STOCK height 2002 Ford SuperCrew F-150 4x4, can I run a 285/70/17 tire on the STOCK rim? Also, how many turns should I crank the torsion bars to make these tires clear if necessary? I am not looking for a huge lift, and I want to stay away from body lifts, as it is my opinion that they look stupid on a 4x4. If anyone has any clear, definitive answers please POST them here. I appreciate it.

Chris

You will not have to do anything to fit 285/70-17's on a stock 4x4. I originally ran my 285/75-16's on my stock rims. They were not even close to rubbing. Your truck will probably look better if you crank up the torsion bars enough to level the truck, but it is not necessary to fit 285's.

Yep what Wandell said.I also ran the 265/75/16 in stock form with no rubbing of any kind.

The increased preload makes the suspension ride stiffer over the small bumps and road imperfections. Some people like the stiffer ride, some hate it.

2003 supercrew 4x4 can fractory 285/70/17 . there shouldn't be any problem running them on the 02's , body styles are the same . you could even lower the front end a little by cranking down the torsion bars . i run 305/50/20's on my 03 s'crew and lowered the front about 1" and back about 3" , i removed the 2" block and replaced the shackles with 2" drop shakles . looks like a two wheel drive instead of a four wheel drive . seems to ride and handle better !!

Just put on 285/70/17's BFG AT's and they fit great. Extremely happy with them so far.

I know they're not the factory wheels, but these are 33"x12" and they fit just fine. Need to trim the lower front valence slightly but other than that no rubbing.
