Motorcraft Shocks
Motorcraft Shocks
First, this is an excellent forum. You all really helped me a couple of years ago with a check engine light.
I have a 1997 F-150 Extended Cab Lariat 4x4 with the off-road package with 137,000 miles. I am the original owner and have treated it very well, and am just now needing to replace the OE shocks. That’s amazing considering the posts are saying that they only get about 40k on the OE shocks.
I see that the Rancho shocks are highly recommended, but I don’t know if I need them. I drive a lot of Idaho highway miles to get to the dirt roads. I rarely tow anything, but do usually have my motorcycle in the back.
Would the standard Motorcraft shocks be ok? Would I need the Ranchos? Any other suggestions?
Thank you.
Matt

It doesn't matter what your driving conditions are to use a better shock. Using factory shocks that long just beats up your suspension. Ford has a budget for their shocks, but in the aftermarket, you can buy a substantially better product. One overbuilt product is the Rancho upgrades.
