VIBRATIONS!help me diagnose it!

Hey guys.. ok heres the deal. 03 f150 scab 4x4 with 6" fabtech and 315/75-16 mtrs on 16x10 eagle alloys with 4.10 gears. ive had this setup for about 10 thousand miles, and only have 19 thousand miles total on it. i got vbrations at 70 mph and up! ive had my tires balanced 5 times over a 2 month period with no change in vibrations or the speed they occur at. ive had a new rear slip yoke cvjoint driveshaft installed. where else should i be looking?? the front driveshaft doesnt rotate unless 4x4 is engaged, now although the front axle is spinning but not under load, could this cause a vibe issue?? or even the rear axle?? so im left to think its in the front axle and or front axle half shafts or rear axle or possibly the tranny. im discounting the tranny only becuse when i put the tranny into nuetral and disengage it at speed, the vibrations remains! i cant pinpoint the vibes, cuz the whole truck is shaking. sorry for the long post but i am very frustrated and am just wondering where else i should look. any help would be great. thanks for your help!!!!

I think I have a similar problem to yours. I just replaced both front wheel hub assemblies and the passenger side cv halfshaft. Now there is a pretty large vibration when traveling over 65 mph. I know it isn't the tires because they are brand new and were balanced at the time of install. Let me know if you find anything out. I'll keep you posted as well.

Thanks

I personally am leaning in the direction of the front end, since its one of the few things that continues to rotate while driving.. what kinda vibes are you getting?? mine are very noticable, but very vague as to location.. the whole truck seems to shake, and it makes pinpointing the actually vibe very difficult!! how much you pay to get that work done or did you do it yourself...

It's hard to pinpoint mine also. It feels like it shakes pretty bad on the driver side but I can also see the passenger side seat shaking like hell. I don't notice it until I hit about 65 m.p.h. I think I might call the mechanic who did the work and see if he knows what the vibration could be. The work was actually covered under a warranty that I purchased along with the truck. I think the total for both hub assemblies, the cv halfshaft, and the labor was about $1100. I guess that's the price you pay for having fun. I'll keep you posted on any information I find.

I just talked to my mechanic about the vibration. He said that if it doesn't occur until you hit a certain speed, then it is probably in the tires. I just purchased tires so either they didn't balance them right, one or more of the tires is not very round, or I possibly have a bent rim. I guess i'll take it back to the shop and see what they can find out. I'll let you know.

Most definitely let me know... ive had my tires balanced over 5 time in the last couple months.. and the vibes at speed never changes.. ive had 2 NEW tires put on and the vibes are at the same speed... im VERY frustrated to say the least.. the truck drives beuatifully for a lited truck up to 70 mph!!!! i know when your screw with things your bound to rn into problems.. im just running out of things to look for!! another theory ive been checking out is the fact that these trucks are HUB CENTRIC rather then the typical LUG CENTRIC wheel.. so i dont know if theres any thing there that i should be looking for.. so im stumped...

Got my tires re-balanced today and it took care of the problem. Have you been using the same shop for the numerous wheel balances? A friend of mine had the same problem as you. He kept taking it to the same shop for rebalancing and they could never get it right. He then took it to another shop and explained the probelm and they were able to balance it correctly. One indication of the shop not correctly balancing the tires is the amount of weights they have to use. If half the rim is covered with balancing weights, then the shop probably doesn't know what they are doing. Let me know what you find out.
