Some drop questions

Well Ive been wanting to lower my truck for awhile and I am looking for the cheapest way to do it. For the back Ive decided Im going to get 2” drop shackles, and in the front 2” drop coil springs. At most places I figure I can get(shackles and springs) this for around 175 bucks or so. But what I am wanting to know is if there are an other things I will need to get along with this, such as shims, new tie rods etc. If anyone could tell me what all I would need it would be appreciated. Also, I would suppose it would be necessary to get my front end realigned, but Im not sure. Do I need to or would it just be wasting extra money to realign when I don’t need it? Also, how hard would it be to install something like this. Is it more than a man with a garage and a few jacks and the average tools can handle, or will it require some special tools and someone with some experience to do? I have a neighbor that is pretty metal and mechanical expierinced and has a nice shop(lots of tools and a lift). Thanks

2" shackles will give you at most 1" drop in the back. It gave me only 3/4" drop. Adding 2" drop springs in the front will give you more rake then you probably want. You need 2" hangers in the back also. And yes, you will need an alignment.

Well, the shakles say they are 2 inch drop, so I am asuming it drops it 2 inches, and arent just 2 inches longer than stock.

So I dont need anything in the front except the springs and a realighnment(??), and I will need shakles and hangers for the rear, or can I cut it with just the shakles. Also, what about shims to rotate the rear axle down, do I need those??

Last question, Is my steering going te be all different, like wider turns, less responsive ect.? Thanks

Like MTucker said, you don't get 2" drop with 2" shackles. They are 2" longer than stock, but they set at an angle so the actual drop is about 1"-1.5". If you drop the front and the rear you shouldn't need shims, however I have noticed that the factory pinion angle isn't right on for the stock truck. I would get 2 degree shims just incase. If you go with the hangers in the back, you are looking at more $ and labor, to grind the old hanger rivets off. I would think a person with average ability and tools could do the front spring thing, And from what I've read, you don't need to change anything else like shocks or other supession parts. Good luck and research it well before you start.
