Question Shock decision

I have a 1994 ford f150 with ORIGINAL shocks scary i know! They recently started leaking fluid and now my truck bounces like a trapoline, Anyways i am looking at either getting the monroe sensa-trac's or the rancho rs5000 i am looking for kind of a stiffer ride since i am not to picky about road comfort any information on which shock i should invest in will be appreciated thanxs.

id go rancho. just put a set of the rs5000s in my buddies GMC Jimmy. firm, responsive ride. Recently put a set of the 9000's in my truck. same great ride, with the adjustability for towing and long highway drives.

PLUS all ranchos are buy 3 get 1 free right now:

You may want to look at the RSX's as well...

Bought the RS9000's from Sam's off-road, you can't beat the price. The shocks are great, I've used them now for both everyday driving and towing. They helped a lot and work great for both.

I'd buy any Rancho over those Monroes. I like to adjust, so I got RS9000s on my 2000 Truck. They were substantially overbuilt.

If you want a firmer ride I would get the Rancho 9000's. That way you can get just the ride you want.

That's not quite true. It's only the RS9000X and the RSX's.

http://www.gorancho.com/promotion.stm

I also found that some of the chain stores aren't showing the sale at all or just the 9000's. I had to push the issue with the store I purchased from before he finally agreed that the RSX's were on sale also. One other store I tried flat out denied that Rancho was having any sale because it didn't show up on his computer and he refused to do any checking.

Russ (love my RSX's btw)

I had the 9000's in the passed and have 1 tip. I'm in MN with a lot of salt on the roads in the winter. The dial froze up the first year. When you get them remove the adjuster assembly (2 small allen screws). Put a coating of grease under the assembly so the water and grime doesn't get inside. The button in the shock that the dial pushes in and out rusted solid on mine. The grease helped.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the Bilstein BE5-2478/BE5-2479s? If you had to choose between those and the 9000s, which would you choose?

Does anybody know where else to get these shops at sams prices? I live in Oklahoma and would be stuck with the sales tax, about another 20 dollars. I've searched the web and it sure seems like they have the DEAL.

I looked all over the web and in catalogs. Sam's had the best price I could find even including the tax, so I went for it. The shocks arrived in 3 days.

I don't know what Bilsteins I have, but I love 'em. They give a nice ride and keep the tires on the pavement.

I can't compare the ride Bilstein and Rancho shocks give, but I know I'd buy a set of Bilsteins again (won't have to for this truck however because of warranty).

Taken off of Bilsteins website: Conventional shocks slowly lose efficiency and eventually fail over a period of time causing excessive tire and suspension wear. Bilstein Shocks continue to deliver optimum performance for life.

Of all your suspension components, nothing works harder than your shock absorbers, making it critical you pick the right ones for your vehicle. Bilstein Gas Pressure Shock Absorbers are the least expensive, fastest way to dramatically improve the ride, handling and control of your vehicle. Plus, with Bilstein's lifetime warranty, you may never have to purchase shock absorbers again.
Bilsteins get my vote!
