leveling an FX4
Okay guys, i've done the search on this and didn't come up with anything exactly like what i'm asking.
is there a way to level, or possibly get about a 2-3" lift, for the front of an '03 FX4...WITHOUT cranking the torsion bars?! and who sells it? and of course, how much?
thanks for any replies.

Your only option is a 4 inch lift kit. There are aftermarket torsion bar keys available that are sometimes sold as "leveling kits". But guess what? They do the same thing as cranking up your torsion bars, they increase the preload on the torsion bars. Why don't you want to crank up the torsion bars?

It will make the initial portion of your suspension stiffer. Some people like this, some hate it. The tire wear issue comes from people cranking up their torsion bars and not getting the front end aligned. It does affect alignment. How much it throws your alignment off depends on how much you crank them up and what state your alignment was in to begin with.

What I mean is the first portion (first inch or so) of your suspension travel will be stiffer. You could just crank up the bars and see what you think of the ride. Just be sure to remember how many turns you make on the adjustment bolts so you can return them to their original position if you don't like the ride.

Do it. It will look great. The ride will be a tiny bit stiffer but I guess my definition of stiffer is relative. What I think is a little may be way too much for you. Who knows?? Anyways. I don't think you will mind it. I have had two F-150's with a combined mileage of 135,000 miles and no problems at all and no tire wear problems. You have to get the front end aligned but you should get the front end aligned for ANY modification or change to the front end. As stated, this is the ONLY way to lift the front without a lift kit.

check out this website. I don't know how well these work or if they make them for any year less than 2004.
