Different diameter wheels fore and aft, any problem?
Different diameter wheels fore and aft, any problem?
I just put a set of Weld 16"x8 XP's on the front of my Gen II Lightning with tires that are very close to the same diameter as the 295's stock but with about an inch and a half less in width. Due to the larger sidewall in the smaller front tire and the similar diameters the truck sets about the same. This combo is lighter. I'm still running the stock tires and 18" wheels in rear. It looks pretty good and the driveability seems find. For any of you suspension pro's i just wonder if this could cause any problems with the steering components, or driveline, or anything else using different size wheels?
You should be fine. The only time running different size tires is when you have a 4x4 which causes driveline binding. Since yours is a 2wd you don't have to worry about this. The different width tires make no difference at all no matter what you drive.
I think the rule for doing this is no more than 5% difference. If you have front and rear ABS it's very important to remain within those parameters or you can get false readings through your ABS sensors.
