Steering noise

OK... 2000 Scab flareside with 50k (see pic) When I turn the wheel to the right and then start to turn it back to the left a quick CLUNK sound comes from the front end. Has anyone else had this problem. Something worn, lose? I'm somewhat ****... (ok I'm ****) and can't stand this noise and want to fix it.
Thank you

My 2000 had a popping/clunking sound on right turns into driveways, etc. After researching here, I found 2 possible problems both covered under a Ford TSB. The first is where the steering bump stops need to be greased. On full turns, when the suspension is jarred in the other direction, the dry, rusted stops bang on each other. There is a special grease with teflon that Ford makes for this. If this is not the initial problem, secondarily, you check the driver's side lower control arm rearward nut and bolt. What you do is jack up your driver's side front, crawl under your truck behind your driver's side front wheel, and look up; there you will see the nut. Look around the nut to see if it looks to be moving. Movement will cause the washer under the nut to remove the paint and look like bare metal. Check the torque of this nut. The TSB retorques to 140 ft/lbs but mine moved at about 60 ft/lbs. If there is movement there are several solutions. Ford's TSB lists a new star washer and nut used with the original bolt. Many in the Lightning area use a washer called a Herb's washer. This washer includes an oval backing that seats in the oval hole in the control arm (yes, not round). If these 2 things are not your problem, I would next do a complete suspension analysis checking general popping/clunking suspension components like ball joints, tie rod ends, etc. Searching "popping" or "clunking" here will describe the TSB problems and do include photos.

Thank you for the post. I found that the tie-rod bolts were loose. After I tightened them down the noise went away.
