add a leaf or blocks? opinions?
Looking to get about 1.5" lift out of my rear. I am goign to crank the torsion bars (not all the way), and I like how the truck sits now where the rear is a little higher, especially when i tow. so I want to get the rear back up a little higher. I can't decide between getting the add-a-leafs or getting bigger blocks. what do you think?
I just installed add-a-leaks this weekend (mainly to stiffen up the rear). This actually increased the rear height about 2". If you install the add-a-leafs you will have the added benefit of a stiffer rear suspension for towing.
I like the extra leafs because I know it would be better for towing, but I'm afraid of it being too stiff for everyday driving. It seems stiff already with no load, sometimes the rear end bounces a little if i hit a bump when turning.
I have not noticed a significant difference while driving with an empty load.
With about 800lbs in the bed, the rear of the truck still sat up and the truck handled with much less body roll around turns.
How many leafs do you presently have? My truck started with 3.

Have you given any thought about air bags?
I have a set on my 2000 F-150 Would not trade them for the world. No load-10lbs of air pressure-no ride different than stock.
Add 800 lb load- add 70lbs of air and I'm right back at stock road height.
I ran the fill sharder valves out the bottom two holes in the license plate. And if I'm out in boonies when I load the truck and need to add air the little air compressor from Wal-mart does the job in about 5 minutes.
And if you just want to cruze to strip with *** up in the air just add air for about 3" of lift, of coarse the ride is rough until you back it down to 10lbs.
Do search for Firestone or Air Lift on the net. they run from $150 to $250 depending to the model and who you buy from.
Install them yourself about two hours.

i had a 5th spring added about 6 months ago.
i brought it to a spring shop, they dropped the leafs and bent another in with the rest.
the ride afterwards was beautiful. was a little stiffer, but it was real nice.
either i have gotted used to it, or its settled a bit, but now it just seems normal to me. have had dirt dumped in the bed since the extra spring, and the truck has taken the load nicely.
the rear sits a little higher after the install, they had asked me if i wanted more height from the springs but i asked them to keep it as close to the original as they could.
i am very happy that i had this done and would do it again.

I am leaning more towards the add-a-leafs at this point because of the stiffer suspension for towing. Also I couple told me that adding blocks is not as strong because a significantly longer U bolt needs to be used. Also maybe someone else knows how their stock leafs were, but I have 4, 3 are long and the 4th one on the bottom is a lot smaller.
