Post Metallic jingling noise

Ok this problem has been bugging me for 3 weeks. In fact i have used up my entire vocabulary of swear words.

When i am driving i get a metallic ringling, jingling type noise from my right front tire. It starts at about 30 miles an hour. All my lugnuts are tight, my centercap is tight. I originally thought it was the metal shield behind the rotor so i removed it. The noise is still there. I found that the lower nut on the coil spring was loose causing the washer to move around so i tightened it but it still did not solve the problem. I even checked the catalytic converter heat shield even though it's on the other side of the truck. What is making this noise?

It doesn't bother me since i can't hear it with the radio on anyways but people give me strange looks when i drive by.

I had a sound like that
for me it was the castle nut holding on the
rotor
(they are now stamped sheet metal cover that
is glued on a reg. nut)

Hey, I to had that problem and found it was my speed sensor was to close and was rubbing. It made a sqeek-sqeek-sqeek type of noise. A quick adjustment and no more sound..

Listen to manx. The sound is like someone welded a 6" piece of chain hanging from the frame. Pull off your front hub cab covers and try to rattle that cover on the hub nut. A little silicone calk will fix it and still be removable.

You are right about the noise. It sounds like a chain attached to the frame, or coins in someone's pocket. I pulled off the wheel the dust cover over the bearings was tight, the castle nut and the cotter pin inside were also tight, the noise is still there.

Cool

Mine does that too! I've noticed it for a long time. I have no idea what it could be. It's very faint in my truck and you can only hear it at times.

Question

I've got a 1999 f150 4x4 and I have the same exact noise. I can't figure out what it is and neither can 2 mechanics that I had look at it. It's not brakes since it don't matter if the brakes are applied or not. It's not suspension since you can't duplicate it on a jack with a bar under the wheel articulating the a-arms or by rocking the think back and forth. It's random, not cyclical, so it's likely nothing rubbing against anything. It kind of sounds like coins jingling on your pocket when you run. I have no idea but it's driving me crazy listening to it.

I came here to post the same thing.

I thought that I was losing my new nerf bars.
I sounds just like washers rattling on a screw. I pulled off the road and checked it out..everything nice and tight.

It seems, for me at least, to be on the drivers side of the truck where the noise is coming from.

Next time you get your times rotated see if the noise moves. If it does then check your tire, some jerk at ford (or tire mfg) could have put something in the tire and it could be rattling around. I have seen vehicles with pop cans in the panels and news paper and stuff like that. Boy If I got ahold of one of those guys I would put a few of their fingers in a tire.

I to have had the same problem, I thought some how I originally had gotten gravel in the cap covering the lug nuts, but no luck. This sound has been going on for a few months, but I have no idea. Plus I do not have factory rims.

I know that it is not coming from in the tire because they are aftermarket rims and tires, plus i mounted them myself. It looks like you guys all have new trucks with this problem. Mine is a '92 but the problem sounds exactly like what is happening with your trucks. Any of you guys with a warranty call a dealer on this yet?

Question

Me too! sounds like a washer jingling around
on a loose bolt, somewhere in the front drivers side. Started out as an ocaisional jingle, but is now there constantly.
Have only 5800 miles, will talk to the dealer this week. Maybe they already have a fix for it.

Talking

I encounterred a similar sounding menace after the bilstiens were installed on my '01 4x4. The install looked good, but it was worth putting a wrench to it anyway The fix? Tighten the nuts on the shock at the shock tower until they bottom out- no more thread- no more noise Viola!. Its worth checking those little dudes.

My truck had the same noise. I found mine to be the clamps that bind the leaf springs together. All four were broken/cracked on my truck. The front were the ones rattling. I bought the recall kit for the 4x4 trucks to replace the front ones (about $10) on my 2wd. My truck no longer goes ting klig klingaling over bumps.
