Unhappy Clunking Noise

A little help please! Driving 01F150 4x4- when turning left you can hear a clunking noise from front wheel well. What is the problem?

Thanks in advance,
Jackie

Solution Move small chevy out of your way.....invariably they clunk when you drive over them.

Seriously though it could be a couple of things. Is it only when it is in 4x4? If not likely a ball joint or wheel bearing

check your left side a-arm rear bolt. See if it has appeared to move (paint/wax scratched off) Let me know what you find

Jackie,

I have the same thing happening to me. I had to have my lower ball joints replaced at 55K and that seems pretty typical for the non geaseable factory ones. When I had them replaced it helped some but I still have it. I have a slight, going in a straight line, bump induced clunk in the passenger front and a left hand turn induced clunk in the driver front. I wish I could figure these out and fix em, they are driving me nuts. All the suspension shops I take it to have the same story. "Everything is tight in the front end, it is in great shape"

The clunk I had turned out to be a loose shock bolt causing the problem. By the way, my ball joints had to be replaced at about 66,000 miles.

Was it your top or bottom shock bolts that were loose?

I think it was the bottom. The mechanic tightened it.

Jackie: check my posts under Ball Joints (Suspension Forum) and look under SuperCrew Forum for posts re: similar problem you've encountered. I got my "thunk" fixed under my extended warranty.

Good luck.

Cheers

Johnny (Canuck) Kay
