Question Spindle vs Upper control arm kit

I am interested in installing a 3 inch lift on my '97 X-cab Lariat and I was wondering what the technical differences were between the Fabtech (or Other) spindle lift or upper control arm lift kits, other than the parts. Is one easier to install than the other? Also, is a lift kit something that a newbie should attempt? Thanks for the info....

I bought the Fabtech leveling kit for my 99 EX-CAB and found out after the kit was installed the alignment could not be set correctly.Fabtech said I should not expect to be able to get the alignment back to factory specs. After having several front end mechanics look at the problem all concluded the only way to solve the problem is to install aftermarket upper control arms. If I
were you I would look for another brand because Fabtech will not help!

zymoil, i would say go with the spindles. they are cheaper than the upper control arm kits and probably easier to install, due to the fact that you dont have to remove the front coils. i didnt encounter any problems with fabtech, but as dwdodd says, stay away from the leveling kits. it has been posted numerous times that they make alignment very difficult.
