Every truck has issue's.
I took off from a stop light with my chevy.
The driver's seat snapped off (completely) & flew me back into the extended cab area.(quit laughing guy's).That's just the way it goes.The truck was 6,000 out of warranty.
I was not happy about it & it cost me $450.00 for a new power seat carrage & install.Suck it up & move on!!!

What "screwing" on the lug nuts are you referring to? I had a '97 F150 at the time of the lug nut problem... I got a recall notice from Ford, took it to my local dealer and got them replaced same day. Shoot, they even washed my truck for me! You might consider that a "screwing"... I call it good service!

I feel your pain, but as for buying a DODGE, you must be kidding. You think you have complaints now. I had a dodge and 2 bow ties. The dodge was a piece of work (trans, diff, motor, cracks in tail gate, and the worst brakes EVER MADE. 1996 1500 SLT 4X4 5.2 Auto)and I am a proud F-150 man now. As for the torsion bars best of luck, I think if the problem is as big as you state we will see a recall and you will be reimbersed.Do not buy anything MOPAR and thats my opinion. Ram trucks had a message board but they ran out of space for complaints! Have a nice day!

Did you ever adjust you bars at all. If so it does shorten the life. And so does offroad driving. If you did either theres a chance its why.

I will say this once again!! I have never beat, overloaded or otherwise abused my truck. A torsion bar should not break under normal use for the life of the truck. It is a design flaw. Torsion bars have always been a questionable part of a suspension system. Had I known I would not have bought this truck. It is a safety issue not a money issue. I have a 1988 f-150 4wd with 165,000 miles on it and the springs (coil and leaf) are as sturdy as day one. I have a 1978 f-150 4wd and the same is true. Why Ford had to use torsion bars leaves me wondering. The suspension of a truck should not crack in half anymore than the frame should under normal use. I am 49 years old and do not jungle hop my truck. The most it ever hauled was an atv. The only reason I mentioned Dodge was I know they use coils and leafs. I believe Chevy(junk) uses torsion bars and is having problems also. I think it would be fitting if I took my broken torsion bar and tossed it through the front window of the nearest Ford dealer. If I were only younger and had no responsiblities I would! By the way the torsion bar I ordered came in yesterday and of course it is made in Mexico. I am really going to trust this piece of crap!

So the source (Mexico) of the replacement Ford torsion bar bothers you? Then you are really going to enjoy driving that Dodge Ram you were threatening to buy. The majority of Rams on dealers lots around here were manufactured in Satillo, Mexico. In case you haven't noticed, all American auto manufacturers have assembly plants and parts suppliers outside of the U.S.

You have never posted anything to substantiate your initial claim that this has happened to thousands of Ford trucks.

Your first post ever on this Forum was the one which started this thread. On other Forums I have been on, you would have immediately been labeled a troll, not so here. The people on this Forum are far less critical and more understanding. You lost a lot of us completely when you wrote it was your hope that our families would go over a cliff in our trucks.

I'd be happy to sign a petition urging Ford to repair your truck for free if it would chill you out.

 

lisicag - why don't you keep yourself under control & leave people's families out of this? I could stoop to your level & hurl threats, insults & generally stupid comments right back at you. Instead all I will say is I hope you get your problem fixed & learn that this is NOT the place to behave like a spoiled kid. By your behavior I would have sworn you drove a Chevy. My torsion bars also broke on my 1998 F 150, and this was at 22 500 miles.

My dealer did replace them on warranty, but they never should have broken. My wife was driving home one evening when one broke, and the other broke at the dealers while waiting for parts.

My dealer (Blacksburg, Virginia) claimed that he had never heard of them breaking!!!

DAMN!

My right torsion bar just ********* snapped on
my 97 F-150 XLT. 33,000 miles on it I'm pissed. I was pulling into my parking space at work sunday morning and "BAM", I thought someone was shooting at me it was so loud.
Then my truck listed to the front right like the titanic. Had to have it towed to the dealer (they said they have never seen such a thing happen) but it's under warrenty and they'll fix it. What's next the engine falling out?

 

lisicag - did you crank up your torsion bars to raise the ride height or not? Seems you have neglected to say in your previous posts.

Could Ford build better, more reliable, safer trucks? You bet they could. Would they be more expensive? Of course, so fewer people would buy them. Reducing quantity would increase the price still further.

Personally, I think Ford has done a fine job finding an appropriate compromise between price and quality. You whiner types would complain if the truck was better but cost $1,500 more, so Ford can't win with you.

Also, how is it that a torsion bar can spontaneously break when the truck is parked, sitting in a driveway? Am I the only one that thinks that is strange?

Keep in mind the same person who claimed the bar breaks in the driveway also claims it has happened to thousand of others, and he also wishes death upon our families. Great track record.
