Post Removing rear blocks at axle to level truck

Has anyone removed the rear blocks to get a 2" drop at the rear in order to level, versa new shackles?Ive looked into this at a spring and suspension dealer and he said he" removes them all the time and it saves buying a new shackle kit, all that is needed are new u bolts ". I can go either way . He also says to keep my orginal shocks.

my ride 98 xlt sc 4x4 ,4.6l
