Cool Attn. DAVENSA

I was reading another topic where you wrote you cut off some of the exposed front frame behind the valance after you did the lift. Can you post a pic? And did you relocate the tow hooks higher? I've been thinking about doing the same. Thanks.

Jup,
I didnt have the tow hooks, but if I did I would have still cut them off...You can always put them on by welding them where the frame is hidden....It looks clean, all you can see is the front valance...dave

Sorry, but I was passing and I wanted to let you know that I am working on the same area. This is what I am planning to do: 1) Get a 97-98 XL front valance, 2)Grind a small portion of the exposed frame, 3) and then installed the tow hooks by trimming the front valance part where the hooks position.

I still have to buy the front balance so I will let you know as soon as I am finished. It's been several months since I installed the body lift but I have been looking for an elegant solution to this.

JM,
Keep me posted if you come up with any ideas. I like the idea what davensa did, but I need to keep the tow hooks. I've been thinking about using some Chevy tow hooks and mounting them inside the hole of the frame.

I've got a question for you too, Dave... I guess it's suspension related. I've got what amounts to Fabtech's 6.5" lift on my truck with their newer spindles, so I guess it's more like 7" total. I also have 16x8 wheels and 285/75/16 AT's... I want to change tires to 315 or 35" MT's, either Yokohama or BFG. Any suggestions? I think you said at one point that you had 16x8's with 35's and had some rubbing problems with the suspension components... was that a significant problem? Any deatails or input you can provide are appreciated!

Thanks.

Jonc,
Yeah the 16x8 with the 315 rubbed on the inside of the upper a-frame..sucked....The 16x8 caused the tires to have a balloon effect on the side walls, looked good but they rubbed....But when I put on the 16x10 WOW....they widened up the tires and the side walls where less curved....gave me over 1.5 inches of clearence..now its not close to anything..no rubbing at all.....Dave

Thanks much, RansToy... appreciate the compliment! The wheels are by PCW (Panther Custom Wheels) and they are a silver "wet look" finish, but also come in chrome and polished. Eagle also make a similar wheel. I got mine at a local America's Tires store here in California... a little over $90/wheel (chrome and polished are higher!) How are things in the Ft Polk / Leesvile area these days? I spent about a year and a half there myself in '91-'92. Some fond memories (some not so fond, too!)

Dave,

Thanks for the help! I know, rubbing is rubbing... but was it a serious problem? I mean, did they rub all the time or every time you turned the wheel, or just when you turned it to the steering stops?

JonC,

Thanks for the info...Ft Polk is still the same pretty much. They are starting to upgrade the facilities some what. Some days are better than others. Take care.

JonC,
Just on turns..Id say about 3/4 of the turn or less.....but sometimes you have to turn hard and thats when it would really rub.....Dave

JonC,
I took a picture a couple minutes ago of where I had the frame cut.......as you can see the lower valance is touching the frame where it was cut, this is where some of the members have frame exposed through the valance..........This look cleaner and you can alway add tow hooks......Dave

HOPE THESE CAME OUT OK......
