Question F250 Torsion Bars?

Has anyone one tried installing F250LD torsion bars on a F150? Would you gain any lift or just have a stiffer ride?

I just heard that Chevy torsion bars from a one ton add 1 to 2" of lift. can anbody tell me if this is true? Would this work on a 2001 F150.

You can compare the two F150 pkgs for yourself here.

Being a Ford guy, I have no idea whether the Chevy info is true. Unlike Chevy, Ford uses two totally different setups between the Super Duties (F250-up) and F150s. The SD line of trucks have a solid front axle & leaf springs vs the F150s torsion bars & IFS.

I'm 99% positive the torsion bars are the same, but I do know the rear leaf suspension is alittle different.

Back in '98, when I got my F250LD with towing pkg and the payload pkg I (not II), my front torsion bars did have a higher spring rate than an F150. I think its possible to have different f150's with different spring rates, i.e., long beds with super cabs vs short beds with reg cabs VS F250LD's which only came in reg/long or SC/short (only one wheel base platform for 250's).

The 250LD spring rate was to accomodate the possible load on the front bumper of, i.e. snow plo or heavy duty bumper/winch combo.

For marketing purposes, ford no longer offers an F250"LD". The F250 nominclature is reserved for the SD line. But you can still get the original F250LD setup with the current "F150 7700# payload pkg".

Same heavier frame, 4 wheel disk brakes, higher payload (although, I don't think you can ask for two different payload offereings anymore, i.e. 2440# (mine) and 2770#, I think). The f150-7700 even has the 7 lugs wheels, ala F250LD! (Yuck)

The OFF-ROAD package torsion bars have the same specs as the 7700# package as listed at www.ford-trucks.com.
