yes someone can,
i have the sport 4x4 and one of my friends has the off road 4x4.The sport only has the skid plate for the transfer case and the off road has one for the gas tank and transfer case. There is also a skid plate available for the front part of you motor for either truck. You will have to ask for it though(35 bucks) as I have not seen it on any of the 4x4s.The off road has 17 inch wheels the sport 16.The sport is monochomatic ( no chrome) and the off road has chrome on the bumpers.I think that about covers it.

Cool

That's it? A couple of skid marks...uh, I mean plates? MMmmmm... I wonder how much more that is when comparing brand new trucks. I'm not sure about the wheel thing as I have the Sport but I have 17" stock wheels that came with the truck.

But I must admit, I peeled off the orange "4X4 Sport" decals because they looked juvenile and put on "4X4 Off-Road"...some people would slap me for doing it but it looks very professional. Will post pics later this weekend...

Thanks for the info!

This issue has befuddled me too. I have the 7700# 4x4 with the optional skid pads (3) -- and didn't know what to expect -- and it came with a decal which only reads "4X4".

I seem to remember my buddy's '97 Off-Road having four front shocks -- but I may have been on a bad trip or just remembering some magazine pix.

Yes, this throws me. While mudder mentions foglights (nice truck btw), I also have them. I also have a 130 amp alternator too...

I had a 97 Off Road...it appears to be the same truck in every way but color...and I just can't tell any diff. Oh well!

here's some pics on this site!: www.geocities.com/bigwulfe (under the autos button).

Wink

I believe it is changing through the years. Because what I mentioned above is the way it was in 98. If you aren't sure if you have the ORP, just look on the sticker, it will say if you have it or not. By the way, only 2 shocks up front.

Bigwulfe, very nice truck. You definitely have the ORP.

Actually, I believe that the only difference between ORP and sport 4x4's are: color of bumpers, amount of skid plates, and (maybe) shocks. I *know* that the sport comes with the exact same 17" wheels as the ORP (even on the 2wd) and the same tires (GY RT/S). So, if you were to swap decals, the only way to tell that you are lying is that you have the black bumpers which you *cannot* get on the ORP (you can only add sport or ORP to the XLT package, not both). Hope that clears it up some. btw- I am only talking about 99/00/01 models, because you couldn't get the sport package in 97/98 and I don't think that you could get the STX on a 4x4 (though I may be very, very wrong)...

I am going to have disagree with you on a couple of things. My y2k 4x4 sport is only an xl not an xlt.It also only has 16" wheels(255/70/16 goodyear rts).I was also thinking that the off road has the tow hooks.and the sport doesn't.

Cool

A F150 4x4 with no tow hooks??? I though ALL F150 4x4's came with tow hooks, infact I am sure of it. Well that is a new one to me.

The STX only came in 2wd also.

Talking

Mine got the towhooks...

so far, after going through everything, the only diff I've found between my 97 Offroad and my 99 Sport is the lack of a certain skid plate and painted bumpers. Now that I've changed the decals, just the bumpers are the diff. It sure does make for one rare bird.

oh yes, and another, I painted all the grey plastic black.

I went to the dealership today.None of the 4x4 sports have tow hooks on them.Maybe thats how my local dealership ordered them.I also noticed all of the xlt's had the 17" wheels and all the xl's had 16" wheels. So I think wheel size is related the xl or xlt package.

Again, after reading through these posts, I'm beginning to question the true nature of my beast....like, could she have been remarked after a paint job, items added on or taken off?

Because it was so hard to track down this type of vehicle, I didn't even bother to run the numbers...in fact, because she runs so smooth and perfect, I didn't really care. But now, I'm just very curious!

lightningcrashz, you are right, I completely forgot about the xl sports, I was only talking about the xlt sports, which all come with 17" rims, whether its 2wd or 4wd.

Bigwulfe, you can look at Ford's site, and go to the spot where you build a truck, and it tells you what all the options include. The 99's and 00's are pretty similar, I think that the only changes are the back seat on the supercab, the overhead console, and the driver side grab rail.

just thought i would mention the 17" wheels on the sport are aluminum on the off road steel, the steel 17 also has lt tires not p tires ( lt= light truck, p= passenger) the offroad thus has stronger wheels, and better tires, atleast that is the way it is in Canada
