I finally went for it
Well i just ordered a lift kit. It is a 4" suspension lift from 4x4warehouse.com. I have never heard of the company but their site looks pretty good. I bought the kit for $510 this morning. It says i get a Standard Bracket Kit, Coils, Brake Line Extensions, Pitman Arm & rear add-a-leaf. Now i just have to figure out what all these parts are and how to install them! BTW, I have a 1992 f-150 subercab 2wd. With this 4" lift what kind of tires can i stuff under here? I want big mud tires but i don't want to sacrifice too much 0-60 acceleration power.
33/12.5/15's as largest on stock rims.
32/11.5/15's are a happier medium.
33/9.5/15 sound good on paper but don't look the part.
I had a 4" pro-comp lift on my 96 Bronco w/32/12/5/15's. It should be about the same amount of lift. They'll still rub a little when you crank it all the way though. They wont bottom out, but you may need to trim some of the splash guard plastic.

Take your time with instructions. Read them and read them. If possible go to bed with them. Be sure that you have all the necessary tools, parts and equipment to do the job before starting it.
As for the tires fitment I am not sure about that year model but the internet is a great way of finding information on projects like yours and photos as well.
Good luck and keep in touch.
