Rancho 9000
I'm sure you folks have had a discussion before about these shocks, but since I am new... I have a 1997 f-150 SC 4x4 with 80K highway miles. First, I am not sure if I need new shocks or not? And if I do can these 9000 be manually adjusted without a major operation? Can I later on down the road, as I get older, add the in cab unit? I was considering changing to 18" or 20" wheels and lower profile tires would this effect my shock selection?
Why would you put 18 or 20" wheels on a 4x4? they dont make really any offroad or AT tires for those rims. You will severly limit yourself with tire selection.
Yes, you can manually adjust the 9000s. They come stock with a 5 position **** that you twist. To add the remote system, you remove the ***** and install a valve stem basically that you plumb to the compressor and interior kit.
Oh your stock shocks, well they are basically shot when you drive the truck home from the dealer.

Thanks for the info. Do I need to position the shocks or do anything knowing in the future I will add the in-cab system? Also can you install them unside down so that the red boot is showning in the rear? If I do that will the **** be hard to reach. To answer your question about the wheels. I drive alot for work and the only time either of my trucks have been off road is in my yard. I am looking to have the wheel and tire fill the wheel well better without giving me too much sidewall flex that you get with larger tires. Any suggestions?

You can mount the shocks in back upside down. It will make the **** about impossible to get to though. The front, I dont think that you can invert the shocks. Different mounting. I have not taken off mine to check yet.
For the tires, dont know. I think that Pirelli makes some 18" tires. Check some online tire stores like discount tire.
